ArtSpace at Crestwood Court
ArtSpace is an exciting new area in Crestwood Court (formerly Crestwood Mall) where artists and cultural groups perform, paint, dance, exhibit, hold classes and sell their art. When the mall was faced with vacant retail space due to a slow economy and planned redevelopment, management thought of a creative solution: make the space available to artists for a nominal fee. Partnering with the Regional Arts Commission (RAC), the idea blossomed into an extraordinary opportunity for more than 100 individuals and organizations. ArtSpace is helping the artists, who in turn are helping increase traffic to the stores that remain at the mall.
What is the role of the Regional Arts Commission in this initiative?
First RAC made the cultural community aware and excited about the ArtSpace opportunity. Then we work closely with the tenants in ArtSpace to ensure their success, helping with everything from legal issues to occupancy permits. Although Crestwood Court is solely responsible for all aspects of this initiative, including space selection, rental agreements and management.
