What is public art? Essentially, public art is exactly that -- art in public places. A heroic soldier in the park, a bronze eagle in the bank, or a decorative relief on the façade of city hall. While traditional works like these represent the foundation of public art, contemporary public art has grown to encompass a wide range of innovative concepts, projects and programs. Public art can provoke discussion, create landmarks and animate civic spaces.
