As part of our mission to promote, encourage and develop cultural and artistic institutions in St. Louis and the District, the Regional Arts Commission provides grants to non-profit organizations that develop art programs in St. Louis and the District.
In 2012, the RAC disbursed more than $2.86 million to support nonprofits, consortiums, and arts and cultural programs in the St. Louis County for the 2012 Annual Grants Round. The Commission awarded 114 grants to programs I and II, which together with 25 Operational Support Grants I and II and 47 Operational Support Grants III (for a two-year cycle starting in 2011), totaled more than $2.86 million. Since its inception in 1985, AAC has provided more than 5,800 grants totalling more than $76 million. (for more details).
One of the first art agencies in the country to develop and implement an online grant system (eGRANT), acceptance for the annual grant round begins in early December.
Each grant request is thoroughly reviewed and discussed in an open public forum by groups of citizens, employees, and commissioners. Grant proposals are assessed against several criteria, including: program quality, innovative ideas, fiscal health, cultural diversity, community/national impact, outreach, management capacity, and community needs.
